  “I had a chance to speak with Miguel before the big game tomorrow. ‘Great conversation,’ he said at the pre-match press conference at the Olympiastadion. 

“We probably called each other the day before, talked for like 10 minutes at a time. It was nice, it helped a lot to talk to him because we haven’t been in touch since the off-season.”

“Then he texted me in Spanish saying ‘Fight to the death’ when we got to the final.” 

“I’m sure you must love your brother because he’s Spanish, but many of his teammates are on the England team.”

“It’s a difficult situation for him, but above all, my brother wishes him luck. That alone is enough to make me happy.”  

England have not won a major trophy since the 1966 World Cup, while Spain have been without a major trophy since Euro 2012.
