Indianapolis Colts second-year quarterback Anthony Richardson returned to action to lead Indy to a 28-27 win over the New York Jets after being benched for Joe Flacco the previous two games, improving to a 5-6 record and staying in contention for a playoff spot, NFL Network reports. 

Richardson completed 20 of 30 passes for 272 yards, one touchdown, and no interceptions. He carried the ball 10 times for 32 yards and two scores, including a 70-yard drive in the final two minutes before carrying the ball into the end zone for a 4-yarder to lead Indy to the win.

“I’m thinking about it,” Richardson said. “It’s cool, especially playing with the Jets and Aaron Rodgers. I’ve watched him since I was a kid, so it’s a blessing to play with a legend.”

The Jets led 24-16 after Rodgers threw to wide receiver Kenny Yeboa for an 11-yard touchdown early in the quarter before Richardson completed an eight-play, 70-yard drive before throwing to wide receiver Josh Downs for a 10-yard score to make it 22-24 after a two-point play failed.

Then, Anders Carson kicked a 35-yard field goal to put the Jets ahead 27-22, but Richardson continued his fine play, setting up a six-play, 70-yard drive before he carried the ball into the end zone from 4 yards out to put Indy ahead.

“He’s an automatic quarterback, and I told myself, ‘I’m going to get into this end zone no matter what,'” Richardson said. “So I tried to find my way in there.”

Colts head coach Shane Steiken said: “I just (told him), ‘Great job. Keep it up. Get ready every week. You’ve got to keep doing what you’re doing. It’s going to be special.’
