Washington Commanders head coach Ron Rivera has confirmed that former 2022 fifth-round draft pick Sam Howell will be the starting quarterback in the first week of the 2023 season. Veteran player Jacoby Brissett, according to The Washington Post.  ( lisbon365  )

Rivera’s decision came after evaluating with offensive line coach Eric Bieniemy and quarterbacks coach Tevita Pritchard until selecting Howell as quarterback. The real centre-back ‘Sam is our man, I’m very confident and comfortable saying he is our real man’

Rivera had previously refused to choose Howell as his starter. Because the Commanders head coach wanted to see the second-year quarterback practice with the Baltimore Ravens before meeting with Bieniemy and Pritchard to make a decision. 

“I think after the first practice with Baltimore, that was a high score for me in terms of seeing him show us that he can do what we want him to do,” Rivera said. “It was a day. very good A lot of good things came out of it and watching the tape. I always think to myself. That’s what I want to see.’

As for Howell, he said: ‘All my work is ahead of me. This is only the beginning. I have a lot of work ahead of me.’
