Argentine goalkeeper Geronimo Ruilli, 32, is hoping to leave Ajax Amsterdam this summer and return to former club Villarreal, albeit in a role that would see him play as back-up to Filip Jorgensen, Marca reported on Wednesday.  ( wilson88 )

Villarreal are looking for a new back-up following the departure of Pepe Reina, with Yellow Submarine coach Marcelino Garcia Toral interested in Ruilli, who is happy to be Jorgensen’s understudy, so agreeing personal terms would not be a problem, but Villarreal would have to negotiate a suitable deal with Ajax Amsterdam. 

Ruyi did not have much of a role with Ajax Amsterdam. After losing his starting position to Diant Ramay, a 22-year-old German goalkeeper, before the Argentinian goalkeeper returned to the starting lineup at the end of last season.

For Ruyi, he moved from Villarreal to Ajax Amsterdam in January 2023 for 8 million euros, signing a 3-and-a-half-year contract, so it will not be easy for the Yellow Submarine to bring the 32-year-old goalkeeper back to the team again.
