Free agent defensive end Carlos Dunlap said he is still waiting to sign with a new team, including the Kansas City Chiefs, with whom he won last year’s Super Bowl, NFL Network reported Wednesday. ( sand357 )

Dunlap played with the Cincinnati Bengals since entering the league as a second-round draft pick in the 2010 class before being traded to the Seattle Seahawks midway through the 2020 season and released by the team in the 2022 offseason before signing with the Chiefs and helping them win their first Super Bowl. The 33-year-old defensive end is still waiting for his chance to sign again. 

“I can help another team become my own team or I can help the Chiefs again,” Dunlap said. “The Chiefs haven’t made that decision yet, but it’s a waiting game.”

The Chiefs have given Dunlap a different opportunity, he has been able to help the Chiefs reach their potential and produce. Despite starting just twice, the 33-year-old defensive end was involved in all 17 regular-season games, just like his previous season in Seattle. 

Dunlap played 537 snaps on defense for the Chiefs, making 39 tackles, four sacks, eight pass breakups and forcing one fumble, and helped the Chiefs defeat his former team, the Bengals, in the AFC Championship Game.

“Obviously, the Chiefs have a special place for me because they were the first team to help me win a playoff game and win a Super Bowl,” Dunlap said. “That would be a great opportunity.”

Now Dunlap is willing to play a smaller role in exchange for a spot on a team that truly wants to win. He’s also coming off a career-low season and the lowest QB pressure average of the past seven seasons.

“I’m a free agent and I feel great. I still love the game,” Dunlap said. “I’m a realist.”
