33-year-old left tackle Tyron Smith believes the New York Jets have all the pieces to reach their goal. After signing a one-year contract with Gang Green, according to a report from NFL Network ( superheng1688 )
Smith played his entire 13-year career with the Dallas Cowboys before becoming a free agent this offseason and signing with the Jets on a one-year, $20 million contract.
'This is definitely a big change for me. Especially having been in Dallas for so long,' Smith said, 'everybody knows how the business works. Sometimes you have to leave. I'm just happy to work with a team like the Jets to help in any way I can to create a winning culture.'
The Jets have had one more win-lose season since Smith joined the league in 2011. Last season was a nightmare from the start, with Aaron Rodgers suffering a torn Achilles tendon in the opening game. Sun before the Green Gang finished the year with a 7-10 record.
However, Smith said he has seen what the Jets have and what they will add this off-season. Which is the reason why he decided to sign a contract with Gang Green.
'I can see what they can do as a team,' Smith said. 'Everyone wants to win. Just like any other team But I just feel like they have all the pieces together right now. The final piece is this off-season. To build a team that can go all the way.'
The Jets upgrade their offensive line by signing Smith, an experienced left tackle, and trading for Morgan Momes, an experienced right tackle from the Baltimore Ravens, as well as signing Contract with Mike Williams, former wide receiver for the LA Chargers, also added.
'I've played against Aaron a couple of times throughout my career,' Smith said. 'I know what kind of quarterback he is. I know what he can do if you give him a little more time. I'm just here to do my best and give him time.'
