Manchester United confirmed on Friday that they have appointed Ruben Amorim as their new head coach, replacing Erik ten Hag on a two-and-a-half-year deal, which will start on November 11. 

Amorim still has three games left to complete his tenure in charge of Sporting, starting with a home league game against Estrela on Friday, in which Sporting secured a comfortable 5-1 win.

Victor Gyokeres, the star striker, scored 4 goals alone, and another goal was scored by Maximiliano Araujo, making Sporting maintain the record of 10 consecutive wins in the league and leaving Porto 6 points ahead. 

The latest five goals also took Sporting Lisbon’s Ruben Amorim era to 500 goals, with 502 in 229 appearances.

In 229 matches, Amorim won 162, drew 34 and lost 33, scoring 502 goals and conceding 196.

Amorim’s next two games for Sporting Lisbon are against Manchester City in the Champions League in midweek and a league game away to Braga on November 10. His first game as United manager is against Ipswich after the international break on November 24. ( wilson88 )
