Chicago Bears president and CEO Kevin Warren has confirmed plans to build a new stadium south of Soldier Field on Chicago’s Lakeside, where the franchise owns 326 acres of land that used to be home to Arlington International Raceway, ESPN reports. sudpung168
“Right now, the focus is on both downtown and Arlington Heights,” Warren said. “This is not a linear process or project. It takes time, energy and a lot of effort. I’m happy with where we are. I think as a group, we’re where we think we are.”
The Bears purchased land in Arlington Heights for $197.2 million in September 2021 but have yet to develop the site, which is expected to include a multibillion-dollar stadium project that includes restaurants, retail space and real estate. They were exploring options for a new stadium outside Arlington Heights in the summer of 2023, when they revealed the plan was at risk due to negotiations over a $100 million property tax.
‘Because these projects are complex and difficult, it would be almost impossible to do without everyone’s help. Even if you have these things, it’s difficult. So it’s important to focus on this.’
Warren also reiterated that the Bears’ goal is to start construction on the new stadium in 2025, and private equity could be part of the project, but no decisions have been made on that yet.
‘Yes, my goal remains the same, to be able to start in 2025, which is important because there’s a lot of pre-construction work that needs to be done on these projects, whether you’re at the museum campus, the Michael Reese (hospital) campus or the city itself, to get everything ready.
