The former third-round draft pick in the 2024 class didn’t make much of an impact in his rookie season, rushing just 63 times for 291 yards and a single touchdown, but the 22-year-old running back is still expected to play a bigger role on the team’s offense in 2025. 

“I feel like I’m going to get more opportunities and help James more,” Benson said. “I feel like we can have two first-string running backs on this team, and that’s my mindset this year: two first-string running backs.” 

Conner is 30 and has dealt with injuries throughout his career, so it will be interesting to see how much of a workload Benson can take from the veteran running back after Conner has been a 1,000-yard rusher the past two seasons. 

Benson has also added weight in preparation for a bigger workload in the future, and entering his sophomore season will allow him to be less nervous and play with more power.

“It was my freshman year, and all NFL defenses are faster than they were in college,” Benson said. “I thought it was, and I thought about it a lot. I only played two years in college, so that was my third year really.”

‘I just have to be more decisive. I was overthinking it at the beginning of the season, trying to hit every home run. James helped me and told me, ‘Take what I can, take what they give me and just be a better runner.’

‘He’s one of the best running backs I’ve ever seen, and I feel like people in the media don’t give him credit. He’s one of the best running backs in the league. For me, he’s in the top five, and I tell him that all the time. He proves it every day.’  ( sudpung168 )
