sudpung168 Washington Redskins first-round defensive tackle Daron Payne is set to miss two to three weeks after injuring his left ankle in a practice session early in training camp.

The Washington Redskins received bad news early in training camp this week when rookie defensive tackle Daron Payne suffered an ankle injury that will keep him out for two to three weeks, ESPN reported Saturday.  sudpung168

Redskins head coach Jay Gruden told the media that Payne injured his left ankle in practice on Friday and will be out for about 2-3 weeks, wearing a walking boot to prevent further injury. 

“He’s just naturally big and strong,” Gruden said of the 6-foot-3, 319-pound player. “He’s probably gotten stronger the last two weeks. He’s got great shape, so it’s not a big deal. He’s very smart, he knows how to defend.”

Payne, 21, played college at Alabama under Nick Saban. He helped the Crimson Tide beat the Georgia Bulldogs to win the national championship and was MVP of the game before being drafted 13th overall by the Redskins in the first round in late April. ( sudpung168 )
