Tremaine Edmonds, 25, said he’s excited to lead the transformation of the Chicago Bears after signing a four-year, $72 million contract with the Bears this offseason, NFL Network reported Thursday.  ( superheng )

Edmonds, a former first-round draft pick in the 2018 class, played his first five years with the Buffalo Bills before signing with the Bears as a free agent this offseason as part of the team’s rebuild in Chicago.

“I’m just excited about the opportunity,” Edmonds said. “I’m one of those guys. I like it when the odds are against me. I like it when the odds are against me. I feel like every single person makes their best moves when you’re undervalued, and I wanted to go to a team where I could be a part of rebuilding. I could be a part of changing that.”

‘It’s just knowing that there’s going to be thunderstorms sometimes, but you’ve got to be able to stand through those thunderstorms sometimes long enough to stand out in the sunshine one day. Just being a big part of that defense and a big part of building that new team, I definitely want to be a part of it.’

Edmonds is one of three new linebackers on the Bears’ roster, joining former Philadelphia Eagles wide receiver T.J. Edwards and undrafted rookie standout Jack Sanborn. The Bears also have youngsters Ja’Quon Brisker and Tyrick Stevenson, both second-round rookies.

However, the change won’t happen overnight, but Edmonds knew that when he signed a four-year deal with the Bears. He was ready to step up and lead and share the lessons he learned from his half-decade with the Buffaloes.

“I think we have to take it one day at a time,” Edmonds said. “I think it’s too early to start making predictions. I think it’s too early to start putting a ceiling on how high we can go. If we want to lift that trophy, it’s going to take a lot of time, a lot of commitment every single day, and I think people are going to be drawn in and I’m excited to see that.
