Zach LaVine had a career-high 42 points as the Chicago Bulls upset the Boston Celtics 126-116 on Saturday night, avenging an 82-111 loss in November, ESPN reported.

LaVine had 42 points, six rebounds and four assists, while rising forward Lauri Markkanen was also impressive with 35 points, 15 rebounds and two assists, the first Chicago duo to score at least 35 points in the same game since Michael Jordan and Scottie Pippen each scored 37 points against the Phoenix Suns o

n Nov. 20, 1996.

The 23-year-old guard previously tied a career-high 41 points against the New York Knicks on Nov. 5, while Markkanen had 33 points against the Knicks last season and became the fourth Bulls player in the last 10 years to score at least 20 points in eight consecutive games. 

Kyrie Irving led the Celtics with 37 points, five rebounds and 10 assists, while Al Horford scored 19 points and Jayson Tatum and Marcus Morris each scored 12 points. Boston also had reserve Jaylen Brown add another 14 points.

“I think it brought us together as a team because there were some things that maybe you don’t want to hear from both the coaches and the players,” LaVine said after the game, referring to the change in head coach Jim Boylen, who took over from the ousted Fred Hoiberg, who prompted some players to boycott practice the following day, before management called a meeting with both coaches and players to sort out the issue.
