Buffalo Bills running back James Cook, 24, has not confirmed whether he will hold out if the team doesn’t offer him a new contract, but he expects it to happen in the future, NFL Network reports. ( superheng1688 )
Cook, a former second-round draft pick in the 2022 draft, is entering the final year of his rookie contract and is eligible for a long-term deal, having previously asked for as much as $15 million per year for a new deal, but Buffalo general manager Brandon Beane said a new deal with the 24-year-old running back isn’t coming anytime soon.
Asked if he would hold out if he didn’t get a new contract from Buffalo, Cook replied: “I don’t want to talk about it right now because it’s something I want to keep to myself and let the business take care of the business.”
Cook still has to report to the offseason program in about a month when the Bills prepare to hold mandatory minicamp June 10-12. If the 24-year-old running back participates, that could signal a potential late July training camp start, but even if he doesn’t, it wouldn’t be a mistake in offering him a new contract.
“No matter what happens, it’s going to be a success,” Cook said when asked if he expected a new deal in the future. “I just have to make sure business is business and do everything I can to be there for my teammates at all times. And no matter what happens, it’s going to be a success. Then we’ll go play football.”
