The New York Jets have reached an agreement with Steve Wilks to bring the 55-year-old coach into the defensive coordinating team under new head coach Aaron Glenn in Gang Green, NFL Network reports. ( superheng1688 )
The Jets have hired former Detroit Lions defensive coordinator Glenn as their new head coach, while Gang Green has agreed to hire former San Francisco 49ers defensive coordinator Wilks to oversee their defense, and Denver Broncos assistant coach Chris Banjo is expected to be added as special teams coach.
Glenn said in his press conference as Jets head coach that he doesn’t plan on calling plays on defense, so bringing in Wilks, a former 49ers wide receivers coach and former Arizona Cardinals and Carolina Panthers head coach, is important to Glenn’s plans.
Wilks will join a talented roster of defensive tackles including defensive tackle brothers Quinnen and Quincy Williams, cornerback Zosh Gardner and defensive end Will MacDonald.
Glenn is also trying to bring in Lions wide receivers coach Steve Hyden to be the Jets’ offensive line coach.
