New Orleans Saints head coach Dennis Allen has confirmed rookie quarterback Spencer Rattler will start Sunday’s game against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers following Derek Carr’s injury, NFL Network reports. superheng1688

Carr completed 18 of 28 passes for 165 yards, two touchdowns and one interception before leaving the loss to the Kansas City Chiefs with an injury, with second-year quarterback Jake Hener filling in for him, who went 2 of 7 for 17 yards, but Allen decided to start Rutter the following game.

“We talked a lot as a staff about what was best for us and our best chance to win the game,” Allen said. “That was the decision we made, and we’re excited for him to get the chance to play, and we’re going to let him play and see how he does.” 

Rattler, a fifth-round draft pick, has yet to play in the regular season, but the 24-year-old rookie performed well in the preseason, completing 20-of-38 passes for 202 yards and one touchdown before Allen elected to start him in his first full season since Carr’s injury, with Hener as his backup.
