Barcelona legend Rivaldo has praised Hansi Flick’s style of play but warned the German coach still needs to address the fragile defensive style that followed the 4-4 draw with Atletico Madrid in the first leg of their Copa del Rey semi-final, Diario Sport reports on Thursday.

‘Luckily the team managed to score four goals against Atletico. Conceding four goals is also a concern. Barcelona played well, but I can’t remember the last time they conceded four goals like that.’ 

‘It is important to make sure that these mistakes are not repeated in future matches, which will determine the success of this season.’ 

‘Everyone loves a match where there are a lot of goals scored, but when you see those goals, it’s usually because of defensive mistakes. Games of this level have some of the most creative players in the world, but a 4-4 result is a surprise. Luckily for both teams, the game ended in a draw.’

‘But what if one side has a stronger defense? It could be 4-0 or 4-2,’ Rivaldo said.

The former Brazil striker also insists Flick must address his defensive deficiencies if Barcelona are to challenge for success this season. 

‘They need to be more careful. Flick needs to fix these defensive deficiencies immediately if he wants to win trophies this season.’ 

Rivaldo also believes both teams still have an equal chance of reaching the Copa del Rey final, saying: ‘A match like this, ending 4-4, shows that everything is uncertain. In my opinion, Barcelona and Atletico have an equal chance of qualifying.’
