Saquon Barkley, 26, is back in talks over a long-term deal with the New York Giants in a bid to finalize the deal before the July 17 deadline, NFL Network reported Tuesday.

Barkley and the Giants have until July 17 to negotiate a long-term deal, and if the two sides can’t come to an agreement, the 26-year-old running back will have to decide whether he’s willing to play out the 2023 season under the $10.1 million franchise tag.
According to NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport, “First of all, the Giants and Saquon Barkley, he recently spoke at his (junior) camp. He said he’s not going to make any final announcements about what he’s going to do for the 2023 season until we get to the deadline and make sure there’s room to make a deal.”
‘Talks between the Giants and Saquon Barkley are back. Now we’ll see if they can get to the point where he becomes one of the highest-paid running backs in the NFL.’
‘At the very least, Saquon Barkley is expected to return to the Giants on a one-year guaranteed deal. It’s up to him whether he gets the security he needs. Time will tell.’
The Giants would have to pay Barkley an average annual salary of $16.1 million to overtake San Francisco 49ers running back Christian McCaffrey as the league’s highest-paid running back after the former No. 2 overall pick in the 2018 draft had a career-best 295 carries for 1,312 yards and 10 touchdowns in the 2022 season.
