Inter Miami’s Argentine coach Gerardo Martino, alias El Tata, has denied rumors about Neymar da Silva Jr. after the Brazilian forward splashed out a large sum on a Miami home, the Miami Herald reported on Friday.

According to a previous report by The Wall Street Journal, Neymar, who currently plays for Al-Hilal, has spent $26 million on a waterfront home in Miami’s Bal Harbour area, just 25 miles from Inter Miami’s arena in Fort Lauderdale. 

That has seen the Brazilian forward linked with a move to Inter Miami, where he is joined by former team-mates Lionel Messi, Luis Suarez, Sergio Busquets and Jordi Alba.

However, El Tata insists Neymar’s signing is unlikely to happen without major changes to MLS or Major League Soccer’s salary rules.

‘With (Lionel Messi) and the boys here, anything can happen. What I can’t imagine is if the league doesn’t make the salary more flexible, how can that happen?’ the Argentine coach said.

Martino also added that the investment in real estate by players, especially those with high salaries like Neymar, is not enough to fuel future transfer speculation.

‘Is everyone who buys a house here coming to play?’ Martino asks. ‘The truth is we can’t have a simple and open discussion about whether a player is going to come or not. When we talk about it, it seems to me that there has to be a different kind of support. We can’t talk or mention a player because he bought a house here or he has a girlfriend in Fort Lauderdale. ‘

‘It’s ridiculous. You have to be firm. First of all, you have to analyze what the league is offering and whether it’s feasible. Starting from that basis, today it’s not possible. So there’s no continuity in this conversation anymore.'( thaisiambet )
