    Crystal Palace confirmed the news in a statement on Monday, but have yet to say whether it will boost the club’s bid to secure Europa League qualification next season.

    The Eagles said the deal was subject to approval by the Premier League and Women’s Super League.

    “We do not anticipate any problems and look forward to welcoming Woody as a partner and director of the club,” the south London outfit added.

    “We would like to thank John Texter for his support over the past four years and wish him every success in the future,”

    Texter’s club-owning company Eagle Football Holdings bought a stake in Crystal Palace in 2021 for around £90m.

    Like other big investors, Johnson will have to pass the Premier League owners and directors test.

    The American businessman is understood to have said he was able to transfer the money quickly.

    This is believed to be a key factor in Johnson’s bid being preferred over the other two interested parties, given Palace’s current status with European football’s governing body UEFA over their participation in the 2025-26 Europa League.

    Palace could miss out on a European place, which they won by winning the FA Cup last season, based on Texter’s involvement at Selhurst Park.

    FA is looking into whether Palace breached rules regarding teams under multi-club ownership structures competing in the same European competition.
