After the appointment was announced in October, Tuchel had previously revealed he was unsure about singing the national anthem, as he is not British and is from rival Germany, until confirming his decision.

“I felt it was not an easy thing to give, you can’t sing it, that’s why I decided I wouldn’t sing it in my first games,” Tuchel said.

“I think, first of all, you have a very powerful, very emotional and meaningful national anthem and I couldn’t be more proud to be on the bench and coaching the England team.

“It’s everything. It means a lot to me, I can promise you that. But I feel it because it’s so meaningful, so emotional, and so powerful. It’s an anthem that I had to work on to earn the right to sing it.”
