Vicario suffered a fractured right ankle in Spurs’ 4-0 Premier League win at Manchester City on Saturday, and played through the game despite being injured in the first half.

After the surgery went well and he had to rest for a while, the Italian goalkeeper opened up on his personal Instagram, along with a picture of himself lying on a hospital bed.

“Sometimes football gives you joy and sometimes it challenges you in unexpected ways. I played with a broken ankle for 60 minutes at the Etihad. I gave everything for the team.”

“Unfortunately, there was no other choice. I had to undergo surgery. I am disappointed that I will not be able to help the team for a while.”
