The Chicago Bears have reached an agreement with Joe Thuney on a two-year, $35 million contract extension with the 32-year-old veteran right guard, according to NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport. ( vox888 )
The Bears agreed to trade Thuney from the Kansas City Chiefs this offseason. He will earn $16 million in the final year of his contract, and the 32-year-old’s agent, Mike McCartney, confirmed that Thuney agreed to a two-year, $35 million extension that will keep him in Chicago for the next three years and earn a combined $51 million, including $33.5 million guaranteed.
The new deal will see Thuney earn an average annual salary of $17 million, making him the league’s fourth-highest-paid left guard and 10th-highest among all guards.
Thuney joins the Bears’ new offensive line under head coach Ben Johnson, which will feature Drew Dallman (center) and Jonah Jackson (left guard), with Braxton Jones and Darnell Wright returning at left and right tackle.
