Kansas City Chiefs wide receiver Travis Kelce said he isn’t worried about his career-lowest receptions through the first three games of the 2024 season as long as the Chiefs continue their winning streak, NFL Network reports. vox888
Kelce has gotten off to a slow start this season, catching just eight passes for a career-low 69 yards in three straight games, and has now run 82 routes in 2024, averaging just 0.8 yards per catch, despite the Chiefs winning all three games. However, the 34-year-old said he isn’t worried about that.
“Whatever it is, it’s football, baby. Come on,” Kelsey said. “I’m not stuck on finding targets and stuff like that. I just want this team to be successful. I think Pat is doing a good job right now of finding players that are open and making the right decisions. We just have to keep finding that. New offense, new players, new pieces, and we just have to find a way to be successful throughout the season.”
The nine-time Pro Bowl wide receiver insists he’s more concerned about the Chiefs’ win numbers than his own receptions.
“I catch a lot of balls in this league,” Kelsey said. “I don’t worry about the catches and the yards and all that. I have the most fun when the ball’s thrown my way. Who wouldn’t? But it’s all about execution and making sure we do everything we can to win these football games. That’s always going to be the goal.”
‘And if it doesn’t (change), as long as we win the football game, we’re good to go, baby.’
Kelce’s level of play has caught the attention of opposing defenses, allowing Noah Gray to throw more, before Patrick Mahomes tossed the ball to the 25-year-old wide receiver for an easy 13-yard touchdown.
“I thought he handled it really well,” Mahomes said of Kelce. “I felt like I wanted him to get more passes, whereas he was just like, ‘I just want to win. I don’t care. I’m going to run these routes and bring other guys with me to get other guys open up. ‘ We understand he’s a big part of this offense.”
‘And we want to make sure that we keep him playing, but at the same time, if defenses are going to pull him, if we continue to show that we’re going to get the ball to Rachie (Rice) and we’re going to get the ball to other guys that are going to make plays, teams are going to be one-on-one and that’s when Travis is going to be there. ‘ ( vox888 )
