Tampa Bay Buccaneers left tackle Donovan Smith, 29, believes the competition for a spot in training camp in late July will make the Pirates a better team, NFL Network reported Wednesday. ( vox888 )

The Buccaneers will enter training camp in late July and will begin their search for a starting two-guard replacement for Ali Marpet, who announced his retirement and Alex Cappa, who signed with the Cincinnati Bengals, while Chuck Mason, who joined the New England Patriots, is likely to take over at right guard, while left guard will compete during training camp.

Veteran guard Aaron Stinney is reportedly in with a chance to get the nod ahead of second-round rookie draft pick Luke Godek, while Robert Hansey and Nick Leverett are also in the running, and left tackle Smith sees the competition as a positive for the Pirates.

‘I enjoy it, seeing players go out there and make a name for themselves, put themselves in a position to help the team,’ Smith said. ‘Between Stinnie and Luke, you’ve got Hansey there, Nick Leverett, so it doesn’t do anything, it just makes everybody better.’
