However, the variety of skills, plus the team had problems with the main commander, Goran Dragic, who was injured for most of the season last year, made the 23-year-old player have to come in as a point guard for the most part. His average performance of 12.6 points, 5.4 rebounds and 4.3 assists was a career-best in all aspects, so many parties are cheering for him to be a starter. 

Winslow sees himself as a playmaker

However, basketball operations chief Pat Riley came out to extinguish the fire, insisting that Dragic would remain the team’s number one point guard, forcing head coach Erik Spoelstra to tell Winslow to wait for his chance. 

On this matter, Justice himself accepts that it comes from the adults’ opinions. “I just think that our team needs to have a certain type of person to play that position. It has to be someone who is a good communicator, someone who is a voice, someone who can hold them to account,” he told the ‘Miami Herald Sports’. 

“I feel like our playmaker skills and ball control skills have improved as well – and those types of players are what the organization is looking for, and I believe I’m the type of person who can do that, which is why I see us playing as a passer.”  

“As for whether I’m a starter or a substitute, it’s just a matter of thinking about how to win the game. So I just have to follow through.” 

The Heat currently have only Dragic and unknown Jeremiah Martin as their point guards, while offseason moves include free agent swingman Jimmy Butler, draft shooting guard Tyler Herro, and defensive tackle Dion Weathers, who is also out of action. 

So the #2 and #3 positions are highly competitive, so management believes Winslow would be more valuable to the team if he played the point guard.
