‘The longer I look at it, “The more the contract points to coming back here,” Watt revealed, “There’s a lot of excitement about what’s happening here in Arizona. ‘I’ve always said you have to have a quarterback. This league will have a chance. And there’s a talented young quarterback here that can do big things and is going from Year 2 to Year 3 and can take even bigger leaps to grow and progress and get even better. ‘

‘Then you also have DeAndre Hopkins, who is one of the best outside wings in the league. I’m very familiar with it.’

The veteran defensive end also discussed the Cardinals’ defense under Vance Joseph, who previously worked as defensive backs coach for the Houston Texans. During the period 2011-2013, he was very familiar with Watt.

‘You have a defensive scheme led by Vance Joseph, the guy I was with my first three years in Houston under Wade Phillips,’ Watt said. ‘And Vance runs a similar program as Wade, a scheme. It’s something I’m very familiar with and feel very comfortable and excited about playing on the team.’

‘You’ve got guys like Chandler Jones and Budda Baker and everyone on defense is young and exciting players ready to get behind it and ready to fly around and play. Create gameplay I’m very excited to be here and I’m not going to lie to you. It didn’t hurt that it was 65 degrees and sunny outside when I woke up this morning. It’s beautiful.’

In addition, being on the same team as old friend Opkins, an inexperienced winger, makes Watt feel quite excited as well. After playing together in Houston from 2013-2019 before the 28-year-old winger was traded to Arizona.

‘It never hurts to have one of the game’s best outside wingers and spell you out. Especially a friend I’ve known for a long time. It doesn’t hurt to have a guy who can catch the ball anywhere on the field and score more than 3 touchdowns and Hail Marys. That doesn’t hurt to have on your team. I’m very excited to be back on the team with him.’

‘I’m so excited to have a front row seat to watch the plays he makes. Especially with him and Kyler connecting and some of the things they can do between the two of them on the field in Cliff’s (Kingsbury) offense, I’m excited about that. And it would be nice to have. Little Gatorade on the bench and watch them work,’ Watt said.
