Yuya opens his home to compete with Joshua at ONE 173 superteeded

superteeded ONE has announced the exciting card for ONE 173, set for Sunday, 16 November 2015 at the Ariake Arena in Tokyo, Japan. The card will feature the ONE Flyweight (125-135 lbs) World Championship between local fighter Yuya Wakamatsu, who will be defending his title for the first time, and ONE Strawweight (115-125 lbs) World Champion Joshua Pacio, who will be moving up in a division in his bid to become a two-division world champion. superteeded

Yuya has been on the ONE stage since 2018, winning nine of his 13 fights and taking down top-ranked flyweight contenders Danny Kingad, Reece McLaren, and Hu Yong, ranked No. 5. He has been on fire in his last four outings, winning two of them by stoppage.

Most recently, at ONE 172 in March, he avenges former world champion and No. 1-ranked Adriano Moraes with a first-round TKO to capture the vacant flyweight belt. This will be his first appearance as a ONE World Champion, with both the belt and his four-fight unbeaten record on the line, and he aims to maintain it to the best of his ability.

Joshua has been in ONE since 2016, having competed in 18 fights and won 14 of them, including four wins in his last five fights and two finishes, making a three-fight winning streak.

Although he had to take a break from the ring due to injury, he recently returned to the ring by defeating old rival Jarred Brooks from the United States by TKO in the second round of the third round at ONE 171 in February, successfully retaining his strawweight belt. In this fight, he will move up in weight to challenge for the flyweight title in the hopes of capturing a second belt.
