Robinson, a nine-year veteran, has three 1,000-yard receiving stints: once with the Jacksonville Jaguars in the 2015 season when he had 1,400 yards receiving and twice with the Chicago Bears in 2019 and 2020, when he had 1,147 and 1,250 yards receiving, respectively. The 29-year-old wide receiver has struggled over the past two seasons, recording just 339 yards receiving with the LA Rams in 2022 and was traded to Pittsburgh.
“Where I am right now, I just got back on the field a few weeks ago. I’ve got a lot of things to work on,” Robinson said. “I’m going to improve my body by going out there and training and working with different people to get back to my (old) self. I’ve got a lot of plans.”
Robinson will join the Steelers’ wide receivers group along with junior Deontae Johnson and former 2022 second-round draft pick George Pickens, who recorded 801 yards and four touchdowns as a rookie. Whether Robinson becomes a starter will depend on how well the 29-year-old adapts to the offense and builds chemistry with Pickett, and Robinson is hoping to build chemistry with the second-year quarterback before training camp next month.
While Pickett said he is looking forward to increasing his training with his new weapon after the 29-year-old wide receiver had limited practice time over the past two to three weeks.
“I love Allen,” Pickett said. “He comes in every day with the mindset that he wants to work and get better. When you have that, you get there sooner or later, definitely sooner because of his work ethic and how much he communicates with me and what we do when nobody is watching.”
“I think these things have a long way to go. We’re going to catch up very quickly. I think we’re getting close,” Pickett said.
