First look at director Apichai Panich’s revenge kitchen film “Morte Cucina” messi1688

messi1688 One of the films we should expect to see this year from a veteran Thai director is the revenge kitchen film “ Morte Cucina ” by director Pen-Ek Ratanaruang  . And the first stills from the film have been revealed (pictured above).

Set in modern-day Bangkok, the film tells the story of a young chef named Sao who accidentally meets the man who sexually abused her when she was a teenager. She uses her kitchen skills to hatch a plan for revenge, but the results are unforeseen. The film is based on a script co-written by Eak and Kongdej Jaturanrasamee  (“Hunger”). messi1688

Thanachporn Boonsang or Bella, who just had her first acting performance from GDH’s “Rung Song”, will be the leading lady in this film, along with Noppachai Chainam , Kritsana Sribumseth and Tadanobu Asano.

The film marks the reunion of Pen-Ek and Asano after 2003’s Last Life in the Universe, which was Thailand’s entry for the Oscars that year and won Asano the Best Actor award at the Venice Film Festival. Asano has been busy with Hollywood films lately, starting with Marvel’s Thor series, in which he played Hogun, Warner Bros.’ Mortal Kombat series, and most recently the hit Shogun series, for which Asano recently won a Golden Globe Award for Best Supporting Actor.

The film also marks the reunion of Pen-Ek and Peter Noppachai after Headshot, and Peter recently worked with Kongdej in Netflix’s Hunger. Meanwhile, Kritsada Sribumseth’s latest film is GDH’s Fan Day… Fan Kan Kae Wan Dio, in a guest role as a host on the TV show Fan Pan Tae.

Wong Kar-wai’s frequent cinematographer Christopher Doyle  will direct the film.  185 Films  ’ Soros Sukhum (who recently produced Netflix’s “Hunger”) will executive produce “Morte Cucina,” along with Conor Zorn, Manuel Schich and Alexandra Hossdorf.

Eak just recently had a series with Netflix called “69 The Series” in 2023, which is an adaptation of his own movie into a series. ( messi1688 )
