sudpung168 James Cameron has confirmed that “ Ghosts of Hiroshima ” will be his next project after finishing the “Avatar” series.
Cameron made the announcement at the unveiling of Martin Sheen, who will narrate an audio book for “Ghosts of Hiroshima,” published by Blackstone and set to be released on August 5, just in time for the 80th anniversary of the U.S. atomic bombing of Japan. sudpung168
Cameron reportedly bought the rights to the book for a film adaptation last year, written by Charles Pellegrino, who also served as Cameron’s scientific advisor on “Titanic” and “Avatar.”
The book tells the true story of Tsutomu Yamaguchi, who survived the atomic bombing of Hiroshima during World War II, took the train to work in Nagasaki the next day, and survived the second bombing of Nagasaki.
Pellegrino’s book is a voice for survivors of the atomic bombing, and a look into the modern science of forensic archaeology. Pellegrino details the events and aftermath of the two days of the atomic bombing over Japan in August 1945 and forever changed life around the world. At its core, it tells the story of those who witnessed the bombing firsthand, both Japanese citizens on the ground and American pilots flying in the air.
“It was a subject matter that I wanted to make into a film, one that I had been wrestling with for years about how to make it. I met Tsutomu Yamaguchi, who had survived both Hiroshima and Nagasaki, and a few days before he died, he was in the hospital, and he gave us his personal story, so I had to make a film about it. I couldn’t turn my back on it.” When Cameron and Pellegrino visited Tsutomu Yamaguchi in 2010, just before his death at the age of 93, Yamaguchi asked them to “help pass on his harrowing and unique experience to future generations.”
Cameron’s latest work is “ Avatar: Fire and Ash ,” which is set to hit theaters this December. Cameron had planned to make five Avatar films, so it’s not yet known whether he’ll direct “Ghost of Hiroshima” after this one or wait until all five films are completed.
